Cities
Methodology
- Every day we read Google Hotels' public results for each city (most-reviewed order, 2 adults, 1 night) for each of the next 90 check-in nights, without logging in.
- A night's rate is the median price of a fixed panel of the city's most-reviewed hotels when enough of them are priced, else the median of the hotels on the results page.
- Demand index = the night's rate / the city's 90-night median x 100. A spike also has to stand out against the same weekday and the ±14 nights around it, so a weekend or a season is not a spike by itself.
- Prices in EUR as Google shows them for the city's own market; taxes included as shown.
Coverage and caveats
- 3 cities have a curve so far (start set: 23 cities); the rest join as the daily job runs.
- One snapshot per day: a spike says that hotels price that night high now; it does not say why (events, fairs, holidays).
- Hotels not bookable through Google that night (sold out or closed) are not priced; a high sold-out share can mute a spike.
